The “Afrikanas” Sector of Varasova
The “Afrikanas” sector lies in the central part of Mount Varasova and is one of its most spectacular and demanding climbing areas. Its name comes from the warm colors and wild forms of the limestone cliffs, reminiscent of an African landscape. The rock is of exceptional quality — steep slabs, small pockets, and powerful overhangs — creating routes that require strength, technique, and precision.
The view from Afrikanas is breathtaking, overlooking the Patraic Gulf, the Mesolongi lagoon, and the mountains of Nafpaktia. Although most routes are challenging and suited for experienced climbers, the area also attracts hikers and nature lovers who come to admire the mountain’s dramatic scenery and light. Africana embodies the true spirit of Varasova — raw, beautiful, and inspiring, where mountain and sea meet in perfect harmony.
