The Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) has permanently revoked the license for the installation of a wind farm in Varasova, following a request submitted by the company Wind Energy. The decision came after persistent pressure and interventions from the Municipality of Nafpaktia and local organizations, which emphasized the uniqueness and historical importance of the area. As a result, the Municipality’s appeal against the initial decision is now rendered moot following the revocation.

Varasova, the imposing mountain of Nafpaktia, designated as a site of historical and exceptional natural beauty, is emerging as a major destination for climbing enthusiasts. Around 90 climbing routes of varying difficulty have been carved into its slopes, offering unique experiences in a natural environment overlooking the sea. At the same time, the area preserves its strong religious and cultural character, with the ruins of Byzantine monasteries and hermitages bearing witness to its historical significance. The establishment of an organized climbing center is expected to further boost the tourism development of both the mountainous and coastal areas of Nafpaktia.

The three climbers who had gone missing in Varasova have been located; the Hellenic Rescue Unit (EMAK) is currently carrying out their rescue in a rugged and dangerous area.
