A Climbing Center to Operate on Mount Varasova

Rising above the scenic landscapes of coastal Nafpaktia, the mountainous part of the region is defined by a complex terrain of peaks, ravines, and abundant water sources.
“Mount Varasova has been declared a site of historical and special natural beauty,” stated Lefteris Balomenos, president of the local community of Galatas, Nafpaktia.
“The churches, monasteries, and hermitages dating from the Byzantine era that once flourished on its inaccessible slopes are now in ruins. However, the remaining traces still testify to the strength of monastic life on the mountain,” he added.

“Today, approximately 90 climbing routes of varying difficulty have been established on the slopes of Varasova, ranging in height from 25 to 400 meters. There is also accommodation available in nearby villages such as Vasiliki and Kryoneri,” added Dinos Tsoukalas, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Tourism of Nafpaktia.
