Municipality of Nafpaktia: Wind Turbines in Varasova Permanently Cancelled

The Regulatory Authority for Energy decided to permanently withdraw the certification for the installation of a wind farm in Varasova, after receiving an official request from Wind Energy S.A..
This development came as a result of dialogue and continuous pressure from the Municipality of Nafpaktia, as well as from local bodies and associations, who had from the outset expressed their strong opposition to the installation of wind turbines in the area.

A decisive role in the outcome was played by the ongoing interventions of the Municipality and its discussions with the company, during which the unique natural, environmental, and historical value of Varasova was highlighted — a site regarded as an important monument of both natural and cultural heritage.

At the same time, the Municipality of Nafpaktia had taken legal action, filing a timely appeal against the initial RAE decision, as provided by law. However, after the definitive revocation of the license, this legal procedure became redundant.
This outcome is seen as a significant vindication for the local community and strengthens efforts to protect Varasova from interventions that could alter the character and landscape of the region.
